As Takara enters high school, he also starts living in the school's all-boys dormitory, where many kinds of personalities are gathered. Here, he finds himself sharing a room with Hosaka Kiyomine, a boy whose personality is the complete opposite of his. In the beginning, the two's relationship is similar to that of one between a cat and a dog. However, the two eventually develops an extremely close friendship, one in which each acts as a balance for the other.

Why '214'?

'214' is the room Takara and Kiyomine share in the first half of the series. Later, the two will move to room '308' for other reason. But it is in 214 where a significant portion of the maturation of both their relationship and their individual personalities occur.

Prominent Characters

• Fujishima Takara - Takara moves into the Souryou dorm shortly after his grandmother passed away. With the deaths of his grandfather and mother having occurred earlier, he was unable to stay any longer in his empty home. His only remaining relative is his father, but Fujishima Kou is out of the country most of the year doing photography work.
• Hosaka Kiyomine - For all his violent tendencies and coldness, Kiyomine is still highly attractive to the opposite sex. But Kiyomine dates only women older than him, partly because of his sister complex.
• Asou Natsuki & Kuzumi Wataru - The residents of 213. Natsuki is a member of the basketball team and Wataru the archery club. Like Takara and Kiyomine, both seem to have contrasting personalities. Wataru is also known for being able to "see things".
• Fujishima Kou - Takara's father. Kou is a photographer, working mainly overseas and especially in Africa. His dream is to find the most beautiful place in the world.
• Mochizuki Akari - Kiyomine's classmate from junior high. She is also attending Souryou.
• Kashiwagi Ayako & Kashiwagi Masaya - Kiyomine's half-sister and half-brother respectively. Both are members of the police force; Masaya himself is the chief of police.
• Kashiwagi Reiichi & Okuno Yoshiya - The residents of room 309, both a year older than Takara and Kiyomine. Reiichi is the current dorm president.
• Suzuki Aritomo - The resident of room 208. He lives with his pet snow leopard, Sakura. Like Akari, Aritomo has also attended the same junior high as Kiyomine.
• Takayama Mutsumi, Uryu Nanase & Kouno Kazuhiro - Takara's childhood friends. Mutsumi and Nanase are also attending Souryou.
